Dive into the World of Big Feelings | Dance, Phonics, Story Read-A-Loud | Preschool Episode 3

hello welcome to class hello hello

how are you today hello hello I'm so

excited to dance learn and play

today is a special day where we get to

learn about our strong brains and how

powerful they are but first let's warm

up our bodies with some movement let's

first walk on our toes like a pretty

ballerina

Tippy Toe Tippy Toe to be all around

now let's walk like a beautiful Flamingo

get your long graceful legs out

good job

okay now run as fast as a cheetah

wow you are so fast

now I'm excited to be my favorite animal

an elephant get out your big stomping

feet and stomp around

stomp stomp stomp around stomp around

the room

if you see a stomping elephant don't

nice job let's sit down and practice

pointing our feet

these are Happy Feet

these are sound feet Happy Feet sound

reach Happy Feet switch your feet roll

those ankles

wow nice job all right let's wake up our

body Pat your head shoulders legs feet

squeeze your feet legs arms shoulders

head

brush away all that negative energy and

thoughts very good

all right now let's scoop some ice cream

kind of did it in reverse we had dessert

first

maybe we should make something that

fills us up a little more let's have

some pizza

let's roll out the dough what comes next

the sauce pour the sauce spread the

sauce

now we need cheese

sprinkle the cheese sprinkle sprinkle

now we are going to bake it for five

minutes let's count to five

wow that was amazing great job dancing

and getting your wiggles out let's bring

our brains focused on learning for a

little bit do you ever have big feelings

let's talk about how that is okay and

what you can do next time to help

yourself through that here are my zones

of Regulation all of these colors show

how we are feeling

feelings are expected and respected we

just have to learn how to work through

them in a way that is safe for others

and yourself

yelling and throwing are unexpected but

can happen when we are in the Red Zone

all we can do is learn how to work

through those big feelings in a more

expected and trusting way

let's talk about green zone first green

zone is when we are feeling calm and

flexible

in this Zone we are ready to learn

problem solve and able to work through

those big feeling moments in an expected

way

sometimes something happens and we

either feel sad or maybe frustrated if

we feel sad we might be going into the

Blue Zone that is okay but we have to

use our strategies to get back into the

green zone in Blue Zone our engines and

brain are running a little slower

in this song we could feel sad tired

bored or even sick if we feel any of

these here are some tools to help you

get yourself back into the green zone

if you're bored or tired try taking deep

breaths to get oxygen to your brain and

wake it up

another way to wake it up would be to

drink some water

if it is an unpreferred activity

maybe this is time just to practice

persevering through those boring slow

and unmotivating moments in life

there are a lot of them and you're only

stronger for getting through them

if something or someone made you feel

sad maybe try taking some deep breaths

in a safe and calming space drink some

water find an activity you enjoy

and work through it with an adult

if someone has a toy you want maybe try

turn taking and set a timer for when

it's your time next

if you feel sick it might take a little

bit to get back into the green zone but

take care of your brain and body with

rest sleep and fluids

if you're finding yourself a little

frustrated amping up or even super silly

you might be going into the yellow zone

yellow zone usually happens when we are

learning a new skill and it's

frustrating or maybe we didn't get

enough sleep so our brain becomes a

little too tired or even too silly

we can start to become unsafe in this

Zone

there is a time and place for this Zone

like when we are outside playing with

friends or somewhere where there is a

lot of fun energy

it can be unexpected at home when

everyone is tired or it can be

unexpected in a quiet place

it can also mean our brain is getting a

workout and it sends frustrated signals

to our emotional side of the brain

it's okay take a deep breath work out it

for another 10 seconds or even a minute

and if it's still frustrating then maybe

take a break to come back and

three minutes or so

or even the next day or week

it's okay you got this

this is where mindfulness comes in when

we recognize that we are amping up to

yellow zone we can use our strategies

and tools to bring ourselves back to

green zone otherwise the next level is

Red Zone and this is not where anyone

wants to be

this is when people become unsafe and we

might feel like we are out of control

it's still okay we all get here

we have to learn that this feeling is

okay and that it will pass

to help my body calm down I will

recognize what is happening within

my heart might be beating

sweating tension is all through my body

maybe mean words in my brain are wanting

to come out

this is the most important time to sit

down get grounded say to yourself or

your safety person

I feel in the red zone

I will ground Myself by signaling my

heart first to calm down

to do this

deep breath in

and out

you might need to repeat that deep

breath in and out when you are calm in

the green zone I am sure someone would

love to talk this out with you and

problem solve the more we are aware and

identify our big big feelings the more

we can become aware and identify how we

can still have our behaviors be kind and

safe

it's time to learn our letter of the day

L says ooh like in leaf or lollipop

L can be tricky you first put your

tongue behind your front teeth and say

oh

let's pull out our Handwriting Without

Tears and draw the letter L

let's put a box and use the side of the

box to form our letter

start in the first Corner draw a line

straight down then follow the line on

the box to make the bottom line and you

have a capital l

for a lowercase one it's simple and it's

truly just one line down now you try

start in the corner draw a line down

and out

now for the lowercase draw one line

straight down

wow good job making the letter L that

says

can you find the words that start with

the o sound is it lion or tiger

lion very good

what about frog or lollipop

lollipop yes

and lastly what about lemon or goat

you're right lemon

Hey look it's a lion eating a lemon

lollipop that's so silly

thanks for learning your sounds with me

so far you have learned the letter f

and L oh wow your brain is getting so

strong

now we are going to move on to story

time

welcome to Story Time with Miss Michaela

we are going to learn about a loyal dog

named baklava and his spunky friend Huck

as they learn about those big big

feelings using the zones of Regulation

once upon a time there was a Huxley

being he had the best dog anyone had

ever seen

baklava was Huck's best friend as he was

always ready to play or defend together

they explored and played in the green

zone where happiness and calmness were

beautifully known

but sometimes in the yellow zone they'd

find a change nervousness or frustration

it might seem strange they learned to

take deep breaths to de-escalate back to

green zone before it's too late

Huck said to baklava when we're feeling

blue we can use these strategies me and

you if we don't my friend and our

feelings explode we'll enter the Red

Zone and that's a heavy load

in the Red Zone anger burned like a

fiery flame Huck's heart raced fast and

it wasn't a game

but baklava was there with a pawn a

smile to remind Huck of kindness all the

while they practice deep breathing in

and out so slow letting go of anger

letting their kindness flow

for they knew in this world filled with

so much strife spreading kindness and

love was the secret to life now in the

Blue Zone when things seem dull when

sadness or tiredness made their hearts

feel full

baklava would take a little break

resting and recharging whatever it would

take

through the zones of Regulation they

learned to sail with kindness as their

Compass they could never fail

no matter the Zone they'd face it with

Grace spreading love and kindness all

over the place oh I know what we can do

it's a fun experiment and review

first let's take a cup

turn on the sink and fill her up

next let's take some food coloring how

about the color red I'm now going to put

a few droplets in the cup Huck had said

look the whole cup of water is turning

red just like how our energy and

emotions can spread but wait it can be

undone we have a choice to be their

Darkness or their Sun that red can

change to all sorts of colors by just

dropping in kindness to others

it's a new day tomorrow so let's spread

love not sorrow

that was the day that hux mine grew he

learned some lessons that can even help

you
